Flight Information Service Officer

Coventry Airport Limited has a number of exciting new roles for Flight Information Service Officers based in Coventry. The main purpose of the role is to be accountable for the safe and efficient provision of a Flight Information Service. Reporting to the Senior Flight Information Service Officer Key responsibilities include;

  1. Providing a Flight Information Service.
  2. Co-ordinating with other Air Traffic Service units.
  3. Administrative duties to include;
    - Answering the telephone and passing messages on accurately
    - Granting or declining requests for PPR
    - Maintaining an accurate log of aircraft movements
    - Filing Flight Plans and related AFTN messages vie AFPEx
    - Taking landing fees and other associated costs
    - Updating Aeronautical Information via NOTAMs
    - Updating Aeronautical publications
    - Providing information to internal and external emergency services
  4. Complying with other duties and responsibilities as instructed by the Senior FISO and/or the Airport Operations Manager.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE:

The ideal job holder will:

  1. Have extensive FISO experience and, due to the Greenfield nature of the AFIS at Coventry Airport, will require specific CAA approval to hold the post.
  2. Hold a previously validated FISO licence
  3. Have excellent customer service skills
  4. Have a passion for General Aviation
  5. Hold a satisfactory medical certificate for the role
  6. Piloting experience would be beneficial but not essential

    Senior Flight Information Service Officer

    Coventry Airport Limited has a new role for a full time Senior Flight Information Service Officer (SFISO) based at Coventry Airport. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key player in creating and managing a team that will take the Airport forward in a new direction. Your knowledge and experience in a FISO environment will enable you to take on the overall management of the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) unit and facilitate safe and efficient provision of the AFIS.

    Main responsibilities will include;

    1. Supervision of the Flight Information Service Officer (FISO) team in the execution of their duties to provide a safe and effective AFIS, compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements
    2. Liaison with Air Traffic Engineering ensuring standards of service and quality are maintained in line with CAA requirements.
    3. Maintenance of AAFIS documentation in line with statutory and regulatory requirements
    4. Establishing and managing relationships with the appropriate licensing Authority personnel and Airport Authority staff
    5. Ensuring that equipment such as navigational aids, airfield lighting and airport manoeuvring surfaces meet CAA requirements.
    6. Ensuring systems for recording daily traffic movements, weather data, AFTN messages and any other relevant information are efficient and appropriate
    7. Logging, investigating and progressing all Occurrences

    As part of the Senior Management Team you will;

    1. Support the Airport Operations Manager in preparation of operational budgets using your in depth knowledge of operational matters relevant to your area of the business
    2. Play an active role in Business Development for the airport.
    3. Undertake other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as required.

    Our successful candidate will need to demonstrate;

    1. Appropriate FISO qualifications and a current, valid license
    2. Extensive FISO experience
    3. Previous experience as a local validity examiner
    4. Excellent customer service skills
    5. A passion for General Aviation
    6. Previous experience of managing a FISO team is beneficial but not essential
    7. Piloting experience is beneficial but not essential

    The successful candidate must also meet the medical standards required for the issue of a medical declaration.
